Día de los muertos/Day of the Dead

Hello everybody, so today is November 2, which is Día de los muertos/Day of the Dead in Mexican culture.  (November 1 is for children who have passed and the 2 is for adults) For Día de los muertos it is tradition to go to the cemetery at night and decorate the graves of your family. You also take food for yourself and the dead. There is music and children go as well. All though I live in the United States, my family and others still maintain this tradition which I really love.

These are the flowers most popular for decorating the tombs because of their brightness. They are believed to attract the spirits of the dead. (cempasúchil)

Woow!

  3. We have the "Holy Men's day" today too, when we take flowers and candles to the graves. But it's not at all halloween-y and flashy like yours :3

  7. Hola Perla!

    Muchos besos

  8. Hi!
Thanks for this post! I like learning about things like this in different countries. Here in France it is only the 1st of november that is dedicated to the dead. We also use the same flowers. No food offerings though. I find the way you celebrate it much better than here (we just take flowers). In france people tend to go less and less to the graveyards on this day. Where I live now, in morocco (islamic), there is nothing like this.
